Jenna Mitchell is a total nerd, a hydrologist with a PhD in freshwater sciences, and she’s thrilled to be spending a week on the Buffalo River, along with her best friend Emmett. Until her meddling sister ruins her trip by setting her up on a blind date. Jenna comes up with a plan, and she tells her sister she’s with Emmett. It’s not a big deal, because there’s never been anything romantic between them, not at all.

Emmett Kelly, a programmer who successfully develops his own gaming apps for mobile devices, is already miserable from the lack of adequate Internet access, and a recent breakup. So he agrees to go along with Jenna’s scheme. Pretending to be crazy about his best friend? Why not? It beats sitting around fishing.

Soon after they start the farce, Jenna realizes she’s been wrong all these years. There is something between them. Something big. Now all she can think about is having Emmett in every way possible, and Emmett thinks he may just have found the person who won’t bail when his work takes over his life.

In between canoe trips and fishing excursions, Emmett and Jenna manage to work out exactly how the feel for each other, and find out that it is possible for best friends to fall in love.
